Morocco’s economy is among the fastest-growing in the Middle East and North Africa this year, posting an expansion of 4.4%, outperforming Algeria’s 3.4% and Egypt’s 4.3%, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in its latest regional outlook for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAP).

The IMF projects Morocco’s growth to reach 4.2% in 2026 and 3.8% by 2030, supported by strong domestic demand, ongoing reforms, and rising investment in infrastructure and agriculture. Growth across the MENAP region is also expected to strengthen gradually, driven by oil production, resilient demand, and reform momentum.

The report said economic performance in the MENA, Caucasus, and Central Asia regions remained generally robust in 2025, with limited fallout from higher U.S. tariffs and global trade disruptions. It added that the impact of recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East had been “contained and temporary.”

While regional economies have shown resilience amid global uncertainty, the IMF warned of delayed downside risks. A slowdown in global demand, tighter financial conditions, and persistent inflation in advanced economies could raise borrowing costs, particularly for countries with high fiscal needs.

Tourism inflows and remittance growth have strengthened external balances in several MENA countries, notably Morocco, Egypt, and Tunisia. The IMF noted that Morocco benefited from strong tourism receipts, a rebound in agricultural output, and increased infrastructure spending.

Oil-importing economies in the region, including Morocco, Tunisia, and Jordan, experienced faster growth in 2025 thanks to these trends, while oil exporters outside the Gulf Cooperation Council, such as Algeria, faced external pressure from lower oil prices and limited production gains.

The IMF urged regional governments to take advantage of the current growth momentum to rebuild fiscal buffers and foreign reserves. It also recommended reforms to strengthen fiscal frameworks, enhance monetary policy credibility, and improve inflation targeting.
