Morocco’s Minister Delegate for the Budget and president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, said Monday that the country’s historic FIFA U-20 World Cup victory “will not be the last,” describing it as the product of a clear and long-term national football strategy.

Speaking before the Finance and Economic Development Committee during a presentation of the 2026 Finance Bill (No. 50.25), Lekjaa said Morocco’s men’s and women’s national teams “face no cause for concern, now or in the future,” adding that “victories will continue across age groups because we want a generation of youth inspired by a culture of success and ambition.”

Lekjaa highlighted that the U-17 national team will compete at the World Cup in Qatar in November, describing the tournament as a continuation of the country’s strategic football vision. “All our national team coaches are Moroccan, trained in Morocco, and driven by deep national pride under the leadership of King Mohammed VI,” he said.

The minister also recalled the Atlas Lions’ historic 2022 World Cup performance in Qatar, where Morocco became the first African and Arab team to reach the semifinals, and emphasized the pivotal role of the Mohammed VI Football Academy, founded in 2009, which he described as a “true breeding ground for national talent.”

Morocco clinched the 2025 U-20 World Cup title after defeating Argentina 2–0 in the final Monday at Santiago National Stadium in Chile.

Football analysts hailed the triumph as a continuation of Morocco’s growing football momentum since 2022, calling it proof of the country’s professionalized approach to training, talent development, and infrastructure investment.

Observers said the victory reflects the maturity of Morocco’s football project, demonstrating strategic continuity and long-term planning to cultivate a new generation of skilled players who could strengthen the senior national team in the coming years.

Sports experts added that Morocco’s success “proves that the 2022 World Cup run was not a one-time surprise, but the start of a new era for Moroccan football, built on youth development, sustained effort, and a clear vision to secure the country’s place on the global football map.”
