The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that Morocco will host the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup from November 13 to 16, 2025.
The decision, confirmed in a circular signed by CAF Competitions Director Samson Adamu, entrusts the Kingdom with organizing the final stage of Africa’s qualification campaign.
The playoffs will take the form of a four-team mini-tournament bringing together the best runners-up from the nine qualifying groups after the final matchday in mid-October. The semi-finals are set for November 13, followed by the final on November 16. The winner will earn Africa’s last spot for the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026.
The October 2025 FIFA ranking, to be released on the 23rd, will determine the seeded teams. The highest-ranked side will face the fourth, while the second will meet the third.
Among the teams still vying for this final qualifying opportunity are Cameroon, DR Congo, Gabon, Burkina Faso, and Madagascar.
The tournament’s winner will then compete in the intercontinental playoff for a potential tenth African slot at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
