The regional branch of the National Union of Public Health in Souss-Massa has strongly condemned the suspension of several doctors and nurses at Hassan II Regional Hospital and the Agadir University Hospital Center, following recent patient deaths reported at the facility.
In a statement Tuesday, the union denounced what it called a “policy of scapegoating frontline workers to polish the image of the administration and the ministry,” accusing the Health Ministry of trying to “cover up managerial failures instead of protecting its staff.”
The suspended personnel reportedly include midwives, anesthesiology nurses, doctors, residents, and professors, some of whom are affiliated with both hospitals’ maternity units. The union called the decision “unfair and shocking,” vowing to pursue escalatory protest actions to defend the rights and dignity of health workers.
The union further rejected the disciplinary measures, saying they “undermine trust within public hospitals” and risk sparking unrest among health professionals. It urged the Health Ministry to immediately reinstate the suspended staffand restore their professional reputation.
According to the statement, the suspensions represent a “direct attack on healthcare workers” and an attempt to shift blame for systemic failures in Morocco’s health sector — including severe staff shortages, equipment deficits, and overcrowded facilities that hinder proper medical care.
The Health Ministry has not yet publicly commented on the union’s accusations.
