The youth-led protest movement GenZ212 announced Monday that it will temporarily suspend demonstrations until Thursday, following what it described as a consensus among participants to reassess the current situation and reorganize efforts ahead of a major parliamentary session and the royal speech scheduled for Friday.
In a statement posted on its Discord platform, the movement said the pause is “not a retreat from our demands, but a strategic step to strengthen our collective voice and ensure that it is heard clearly and effectively.”
The group called on supporters to prepare for nationwide rallies on Thursday, emphasizing continued demands for the dismissal and accountability of the government, as well as reforms to health and education and the release of detained protesters.
According to the announcement, Thursday’s demonstrations will focus on major cities to maximize turnout and increase pressure on authorities. The movement said the regrouping aims to ensure “greater organization, impact, and coordination” ahead of what it views as a pivotal political moment for the country.
The GenZ212 protests, now in their second week, have drawn thousands of young people across multiple Moroccan cities, calling for sweeping social and political reforms and denouncing corruption and economic hardship.
