Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) said Friday that residents in the southern regions will no longer be able to pay water bills through the “Tashilat” and “Chaabi Cash” payment platforms, operated by the regional centers of the Directorate of Southern Provinces.
The suspension is part of a transitional phase related to transferring management of the water sector to the Regional Multi-Service Company of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, under the council of the local group of municipalities, as part of Morocco’s advanced regionalization and public service restructuring efforts.
ONEE said the regional company will take over billing and payment services in the future, using new mechanisms to be introduced at a later stage, while ensuring continuity of service.
The council of the local group of municipalities reassured citizens that current water tariffs will remain unchanged and that payment processes will proceed smoothly, responding to rumors of potential bill increases.
