A private hospital group in Morocco says it has carried out the country’s first minimally invasive mastectomy, a procedure that marks a breakthrough in breast cancer treatment.
The operation was performed at Akdital’s International Oncology Center in Casablanca under the supervision of surgeon Adnane Afifi, according to a statement by the group.
Unlike traditional mastectomies, the new technique reduces scarring and preserves the breast’s appearance, offering patients both faster recovery and psychological relief. Afifi said the innovation reflects Akdital’s effort “to provide surgical solutions that are effective, humane and adapted to patients’ needs.”
Akdital described the procedure as a milestone in Moroccan oncology, citing shorter hospital stays, less post-operative pain and near-invisible scarring as benefits. The group, which has expanded rapidly in recent years, framed the surgery as part of its ambition to bring international-standard innovations to Morocco and strengthen the country’s position as a regional hub for advanced medical care.
