The Moroccan government will receive a €100 million policy-based loan (about 1.8 billion dirhams) from the OPEC Fund for International Development to finance the second phase of its “Program to Support Economic Governance and Climate Resilience” (PGRCC II), according to an official statement.
The financing, approved by the Fund’s Board alongside a $1 billion global package for Africa, Latin America and Asia, will support ongoing reforms in Morocco’s water and energy sectors in cooperation with the African Development Bank.
The OPEC Fund said the broader allocation aims to boost infrastructure, clean energy and sustainable livelihoods. Other African beneficiaries include Eswatini ($50 million for fiscal reforms), Lesotho ($40 million for transport and logistics), South Africa ($150 million for infrastructure modernization), and Malawi ($27 million for water supply and sanitation).
Additional loans were directed to Papua New Guinea ($50 million for early education) and to support rural growth programs in Asia.
