Morocco’s intelligence chief, Abdelatif Hammouchi, met Thursday in Rabat with France’s domestic security director, Céline Berthon, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral security cooperation amid growing regional threats.
The meeting brought together Hammouchi, who heads both Morocco’s national police and domestic intelligence agency, and Berthon, accompanied by a high-level French delegation, Morocco’s intelligence service said in a statement.

Talks focused on expanding joint operations between Moroccan and French security services, particularly against terrorism in the Sahel and other conflict zones. The statement said past cooperation had proven effective in neutralizing threats at both regional and international levels.
Berthon praised Morocco’s role in helping secure the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and discussed coordination for upcoming major sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco and the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

The two sides also addressed cooperation against espionage and other hostile activities targeting national security.
The statement described the meeting as underscoring the “strategic importance” of Moroccan-French security ties, portraying them as a model of regular and effective collaboration in combating terrorism, extremism and irregular migration, and in developing a joint, preventive approach to transnational threats.
