The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is finalizing an agreement to stage a friendly between the Atlas Lions and Uzbekistan in October at the Grand Stade de Tanger, Hesport reported.
The fixture will replace the canceled match against Eritrea, which withdrew from World Cup qualifying.
Talks between the Moroccan and Uzbek federations are advanced, with the match expected to be played during FIFA’s international window from October 6 to 14.
It will serve as preparation for Morocco’s final World Cup 2026 qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, which the Kingdom will host from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Uzbekistan, ranked 55th by FIFA and qualified for the 2026 World Cup, is seen as one of Asia’s rising sides, boasting a new generation of players active in European and Asian clubs.
The game will also inaugurate the renovated Tangier venue, now expanded to over 75,000 seats and already known for staging high-profile events such as the Spanish Super Cup.
