A new academic study published in Nature Communications found that Moroccans under 40 are less religious than older generations, both in participation in worship rituals and in the importance of religion in their daily lives.
The research was conducted by scholars from the University of Lausanne, Oxford University, and the Pew Research Center, drawing on surveys from 111 countries and territories.
The study applies the sequence “participation–importance–belonging” to measure generational differences, suggesting that younger cohorts first abandon time-consuming rituals before gradually detaching from religious identity.
Researchers noted that while religiosity declines across generations globally, the pace and indicators vary by country.
The paper expands secularization theory beyond Western Christian contexts, showing that Africa remains at an early stage of this transition, while Europe is in a later phase. In Morocco, the generational gap reflects a broader trend of religious decline among youth worldwide.
Unfortunally that study s is incorrect we are under 40 and we love love our islam as religion and as a way of living .
