Morocco’s top security official, Abdellatif Hammouchi, director-general of national security and domestic intelligence, visited Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Friday to review security preparations for the national team’s World Cup 2026 qualifier against Niger.
The inspection covered the stadium’s facilities and security protocols drawn up by Rabat police, in coordination with central authorities.
The plan includes crowd management, traffic flow around the venue, and preventive measures to ensure fan safety and smooth operations.
Rabat’s police chief presented Hammouchi with details of the human resources and logistics mobilized, highlighting advanced digital monitoring systems, including hundreds of high-definition smart cameras and other technologies to track movement and secure sensitive areas.
The newly rebuilt stadium, with a capacity of 68,700, was designed to meet the highest international standards. It features a hybrid natural-synthetic turf, the first of its kind in Africa, four modern locker rooms, medical facilities, VIP areas with 110 suites, and media spaces equipped for live broadcasting.
Hammouchi’s visit comes as Morocco prepares to host major tournaments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Officials say the inspection reflects a shift toward proactive security management and reinforces Morocco’s readiness to host global sporting events under international standards.
