Police in Kenitra, working with counterparts in Ait Melloul, arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of involvement in a violent street theft carried out with a motorbike, authorities said Thursday.
The arrest followed intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to a statement from the Agadir police department. Investigators say the suspect and an accomplice targeted two victims in Ait Melloul in a snatching incident that was later captured on video and widely shared on social media.
The footage prompted a police investigation that quickly identified the suspects. The arrested man was taken into custody in Kenitra, while his alleged accomplice has been fully identified and remains at large.
The detainee has been placed under judicial custody pending an investigation led by the competent prosecutor’s office.
