Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said Thursday in Cairo that Morocco, under King Mohammed VI, considers peace a “strategic choice” and rejects managing crises as a response to “unacceptable Israeli measures.”

Speaking before the 164th session of the Arab League Council at ministerial level, Bourita stressed that Morocco will “continue to work with commitment and credibility, using its regional and international standing, to create the conditions for a return to the negotiating table, the only way to end the conflict and bring security and stability to the Middle East.”

Bourita reiterated Morocco’s call for “an immediate ceasefire” and the reopening of all crossings to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, alongside the safe return of displaced civilians.

He urged support for UNRWA and Palestinian relief agencies, while demanding “an urgent halt to Israeli demolitions and expulsions in the West Bank” and respect for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the 1967 status quo.

Citing Morocco’s “tangible solidarity,” the minister recalled that King Mohammed VI, as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, had ordered an unprecedented airlift of nearly 300 tons of food and medical aid into Gaza “to help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.”

He also underlined the role of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in defending the city’s legal and historical status while improving the living conditions of Jerusalem’s residents.

Bourita welcomed recent momentum behind international recognition of Palestine and said Morocco, in partnership with the Netherlands, co-hosted in Rabat the May 20 meeting of the International Alliance for the Two-State Solution, which fed into the high-level conference in New York.

Turning to Syria, the minister said Morocco had reopened its embassy in Damascus as “one of the key channels for strengthening bilateral relations,” while affirming support for a Syrian-led political process that preserves the country’s unity and stability.

On regional cooperation, Bourita affirmed Morocco’s “full engagement in initiatives that can strengthen Arab unity” and called for concrete steps to accelerate Arab League reform, ensuring it plays its role in “achieving Arab solidarity, unity of ranks, and responding to our peoples’ aspirations for peace, security, and prosperity.”
