Moroccan rapper ElGrande Toto sued after Kenitra Festival uproar
Thursday 4 September 2025 - 15:26

Moroccan rapper ElGrande Toto is once again at the center of controversy following his performance at the first edition of the Kenitra Festival, where observers described his act as “catastrophic” and “immoral.”

His repeated use of vulgar lyrics, reportedly audible beyond the festival grounds into nearby neighborhoods, triggered a formal complaint.

The Spring of Cinema Association filed a lawsuit accusing him of public indecency and of violating standards expected at state-sponsored events.

In response, the rapper posted videos lashing out at the association, using insults and announcing he would leave for France rather than comply with legal proceedings.

This episode adds to a series of past controversies. At the Mawazine Festival, his lyrics prompted more than 190 complaints to the audiovisual authority HACA, which later dismissed them.

In 2022, he drew national backlash after publicly admitting to cannabis use during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Culture.
