Morocco is moving ahead with construction on the civil engineering phase of its high-speed rail extension between Kenitra and Marrakech, a 430-kilometer line that will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities.
The National Railway Office (ONCF) announced the completion of the first support structure for the Oued Hassar bridge in Mediouna, near Casablanca, one of the project’s key engineering works. The bridge is being built by URBAGEC, a company specialized in civil engineering and construction.
The works, part of the TOARC3 engineering package, involve complex earthworks, structural foundations, and installation of safety and communications infrastructure to ensure the secure passage of Morocco’s TGV trains.

King Mohammed VI launched the project on April 24 at Rabat-Agdal station, marking the official start of the extension of Morocco’s high-speed rail (LGV) from Kenitra to Marrakech. Once completed, the line will cut travel time between Casablanca and Marrakech to around 90 minutes, compared to more than three hours today.
ONCF said the project is being carried out under strict environmental and safety standards. The extension is also part of Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup and is expected to strengthen connectivity between the north and south of the country.
In addition to the Oued Hassar bridge, crews are working on trackbed preparation, soil stabilization, and the construction of overpasses and underpasses to ensure smooth road and agricultural traffic along the route. Protective fencing and underground networks for utilities are also being installed to safeguard the new infrastructure.
