Morocco is expected to import 7.5 million tons of wheat in the 2025/26 marketing year, according to the latest global supply and demand outlook issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS).
The forecast underscores the country’s continued reliance on external markets for more than half its wheat needs, a dependency shaped by recurrent droughts and rising global grain costs.
The USDA report, published in August and cited by agricultural news outlet UkrAgroConsult, links the trend to a sharp decline in global wheat reserves, which are projected at 256.2 million tons, the lowest since 2016/17.
Poor harvests in major producers including Europe, Russia and Ukraine are expected to further strain supply and pressure import prices.
