Mauritania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied on Monday claims that its territory was being used as a corridor for the transfer of Ukrainian weapons to armed groups in the Sahel region.
In a statement, the ministry stressed that the allegations, reported by some foreign media outlets, were not supported by any concrete evidence.
The ministry reaffirmed Mauritania’s position on the Russia Ukraine conflict, recalling that it voted at the United Nations General Assembly in favor of the resolution condemning violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the same time, it opposed suspending Russia’s membership in the Human Rights Council, arguing that sanctions and isolation only prolong crises rather than resolve them.
According to the statement, this stance has been interpreted differently, with some observers criticizing it as contradictory, while others viewed it as consistent with Mauritania’s principles.
