A 27-year-old woman in New Zealand was arrested after a two-year-old girl was discovered inside her luggage while travelling on a bus.

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday in Kaiwaka, a small town in the country’s north, after a passenger requested access to the bus’s luggage compartment.

The driver became alarmed when he saw a suitcase moving and, upon opening it, found the child inside.

Officers said the girl was “very hot” but appeared physically unharmed. She was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.

Authorities have yet to disclose the relationship between the woman and the child, and Police praised the bus driver for acting quickly, saying his intervention “prevented what could have been a far worse outcome.”
