French football star Kylian Mbappé was interviewed by investigators in April 2023 as part of the rape probe involving Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, L’Équipe reported.

His testimony resurfaced as the Nanterre prosecutor formally requested Hakimi’s referral to criminal court, where he faces up to 15 years in prison.

Mbappé, Hakimi’s former teammate at PSG, said the Moroccan player confided in him that there had been mutual touching, “but he felt no refusal.” He added that they ultimately “did not sleep together,” and defended Hakimi’s character: “He respects women. Even drunk, I’ve never seen him act inappropriately.”

In a statement to AFP, Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin described the prosecution’s request as “incomprehensible and illogical” and said the defense is prepared to exhaust all legal remedies if the case proceeds. The final decision now rests with the investigating chamber, which will rule on whether to move forward with trial proceedings.
