French prosecutors have officially requested that Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi be tried before the criminal court in Hauts-de-Seine for an alleged rape that occurred in February 2023, Le Parisien reported.
The request, signed on August 1, follows a months-long investigation and could result in a trial where Hakimi, 26, faces up to 15 years in prison.
The player, through his legal team, has repeatedly denied the accusations, calling them false and financially motivated.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a 24-year-old woman who told police she had been raped at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt on February 25, 2023.
According to her testimony, she met the Paris Saint-Germain defender through Instagram and visited him while his partner and children were away. The woman alleges that Hakimi forcibly kissed and touched her without consent, and then sexually assaulted her despite her protests.
Although she initially declined to press formal charges, prosecutors opened an investigation, citing the gravity of the allegations. Hakimi was placed under formal judicial review in March and later confronted his accuser in December 2023 during a court session, where both parties maintained their positions.
The footballer claims the encounter was consensual and described the case as an attempt to extort him.
Despite the unfolding legal case, Hakimi has continued to appear in public. On the day the story first broke in Le Parisien, he was seen smiling at the FIFA
The Best Awards in Paris, where he was named among the world’s top 11 players. Spanish sports daily MARCA reported at the time that Hakimi was “very calm” and confident in his innocence.
The decision to proceed with a trial now rests with the investigating judge, who must determine whether the evidence supports the prosecution’s request for indictment.
