Despite growing complaints from Moroccans about soaring hotel and restaurant prices this summer, the Ministry of Tourism insists the season is performing strongly, dismissing claims of a downturn in visitor numbers.
A source within the ministry, speaking to Hespress AR on condition of anonymity, said “preliminary estimates and occupancy rates in classified tourist establishments show a positive dynamic for the current summer season.”
The source added that booking figures for August indicate that this upward trend is likely to continue throughout the season.
While declining to disclose exact numbers, the official stressed that the data contradict widespread impressions of a disappointing season. The ministry, led by Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, is expected to release official figures at a later stage.
The reassurances come as frustration mounts in major tourist cities, where locals and visitors alike have criticized steep prices at hotels, restaurants, and cafés. Many Moroccans abroad have publicly compared Morocco’s summer costs with European destinations, often concluding that the latter are cheaper.
