Moroccan authorities have launched a sweeping investigation into real estate speculation in Casablanca’s industrial zones, using drones to track dozens of idle land plots allegedly acquired by powerful individuals, Hespress reported citing well-informed sources.
The urban agency, in coordination with the Interior Ministry, is probing how beneficiaries secured industrial parcels at preferential rates, only to resell or lease them for profit. Initial findings, supported by chambers of commerce reports, point to millions of dirhams in speculative gains and a stalled investment climate, particularly in zones within the Casablanca-Settat region.
The probe includes scrutiny of project delays and denied permits, with clear directives issued to regional officials to resolve pending investor grievances.
Authorities are also enforcing Law 102.21, which mandates land usage within fixed timelines and introduces penalties for violations, including contract termination. The Ministry of Industry had earlier vowed legal action against inactive landholders.
