Nearly two years after Morocco’s devastating earthquake, hundreds of families in the Al Haouz region are still living in deteriorated tents and facing what civic groups describe as ongoing exclusion and mismanagement in the reconstruction process.
In a joint statement, the National Coordination of Al Haouz Earthquake Victims and the Civil Coalition for the Mountains denounced what they called a lack of justice and transparency.
The groups cited widespread inconsistencies in official figures, unfulfilled aid promises, and credible allegations of tampering by local officials during damage assessments and fund distribution.
Many families reportedly received only partial compensation, 80,000 dirhams, despite total housing loss, while others received nothing.
The groups urged full compensation for all victims and the public release of a detailed, transparent beneficiary database.
