The local prison administration in Nador has denied reports circulating on social media and in some media outlets suggesting the “mysterious death” of a young inmate, asserting there were no unclear or suspicious circumstances surrounding the case.
In a statement released Saturday, the prison clarified that the deceased inmate had been in custody on charges related to the unauthorized sale of alcoholic beverages.
According to the statement, the inmate had been suffering from a serious throat illness and was under continuous medical supervision at the prison’s infirmary. He had also been transferred multiple times to external medical facilities for treatment.
The prison administration noted that on July 17, the inmate was taken to Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda for care and was returned the same day. The following day, July 18, he was again transferred, this time to the Nador provincial hospital, after experiencing difficulty breathing.
Officials affirmed that all necessary medical steps were taken in a timely manner, both within the facility and in coordination with public hospitals. The prison emphasized that the inmate had received proper follow-up and treatment throughout the course of his illness.
The statement concluded by stressing the institution’s commitment to providing adequate healthcare to all inmates within the legal and logistical capacities available, and urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information or claims not supported by documented facts.
