The coastal city of Essaouira recorded an 18% rise in overnight stays at classified tourist accommodation establishments by the end of April 2025, reaching 232,837 compared to 197,950 during the same period last year, according to data from the Tourism Observatory.

The average occupancy rate also increased to 43%, up from 41% in 2024.

For the month of April alone, overnight stays rose 21% year-on-year to 76,134, while the monthly occupancy rate climbed to 50%, compared to 47% in April 2024.

Nationwide, Morocco logged over 9 million overnight stays in classified establishments by the end of April, marking a 15% increase from the same period last year.

The growth was driven by a 19% surge in international tourism, while domestic tourism rose by 4%.

The latest figures reflect continued momentum in Morocco’s tourism recovery, with Essaouira standing out as one of the destinations seeing strong performance early in the year.
