Morocco has been ranked 7th among the top 10 African countries making progress in infrastructure development, according to a recent report by The African Exponent, a platform specializing in economic analysis across the continent.
The report highlights Morocco’s strong infrastructure performance, noting that the country has achieved a 70.32% project completion rate for state-led infrastructure initiatives. This puts it ahead of countries like Algeria (8th), Botswana, and Cape Verde.
The analysis credits Morocco’s strategic partnerships with Asian powers such as China and South Korea for accelerating development.
Major national projects have helped position the country as a key regional economic hub, particularly in maritime transport, rail, and renewable energy.
The report cites flagship initiatives like the high-speed rail line between Tangier and Casablanca, the first of its kind in Africa, developed through international cooperation. It also highlights the Tanger Med Port, one of the busiest and most advanced in the Mediterranean, and large-scale renewable energy facilities in Ouarzazate and other regions.
Seychelles topped the ranking with a project completion rate of over 99%, driven by its tourism-based economy and focus on maritime infrastructure and clean energy. Egypt came second, followed by Libya, which has managed to revive and expand infrastructure projects despite ongoing political instability.
The list includes five North African countries, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya, reflecting the region’s gains through strategic urban planning and international cooperation.
The report stresses the importance of geography, noting that island and coastal nations, particularly those on the Mediterranean, tend to rank higher due to access to trade and investment opportunities.
