A German national has been arrested and placed in pre-trial detention in Tangier, on charges of sexually exploiting minors, judicial sources told Hespress.
The man is being prosecuted alongside a Moroccan accomplice, who allegedly lured vulnerable children to the foreigner’s residence in exchange for money.
At least three victims have been identified so far, all minors from impoverished or homeless backgrounds. Authorities believe more children may have been abused.
The arrests followed complaints from neighbors who observed minors entering and exiting the residence frequently.
The Moroccan accomplice has reportedly confessed, stating he targeted children from vulnerable backgrounds to satisfy the foreign suspect’s predatory demands. Investigators revealed the German had traveled to Morocco multiple times, raising concerns that additional victims may exist in other cities.
Child rights groups reacted with urgency. Najat Anwar, head of Matqich Waldi, called the case “a painful reminder of systemic failure” and urged the government to apply maximum penalties without regard to diplomatic pressure.
She also called for a national sex offender registry and tighter coordination between police and civil society.
Hassan El Marabet, of the Moroccan Childhood Hope League, warned that “poverty and neglect are feeding grounds for abuse,” calling for stronger social protections and swift legal action.
