Public prosecutor refutes claims of arbitrary arrest in Ben Guerir
Friday 27 June 2025 - 23:10

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Ben Guerir Court of First Instance has denied online rumors of an alleged arbitrary arrest, clarifying that two individuals were legally detained for public drunkenness, insulting police officers, causing public disorder, and damaging public property.

The first suspect was arrested in the early hours of June 27 after verbally abusing police officers who attempted to prevent him from livestreaming video footage that showed a police station and its visitors. He was visibly intoxicated and broadcasting in connection with a case currently before the Marrakech Court of Appeal.

His brother, also intoxicated, later entered the station, caused a disturbance, insulted officers, and smashed a window.

Both were placed in custody under public prosecution orders for investigation. The suspects were taken to a hospital for medical examination and remain in custody under legal safeguards. They will be presented to the prosecutor once the investigation concludes.
