Morocco’s Mawazine Festival is facing a lawsuit from XtendVision, a hologram technology company, over the unauthorized use of the image of late music icon Abdel Halim Hafez.
XtendVision claims it withdrew from a planned interactive hologram concert due to technical and organizational breaches, including inadequate venue conditions and insufficient setup time.
The company alleges that organizers proceeded with a replacement performance using a hologram from another provider whose license was previously revoked.
XtendVision, which holds exclusive rights from Hafez’s heirs, has launched legal action in Morocco, Egypt, and the UAE, seeking up to $1 million in damages.
The tribute performance drew heavy criticism from fans over poor visual quality, further fueling backlash.
This controversy compounds existing issues in Mawazine’s 20th edition, including scheduling delays, technical glitches, and poor organization.
