The unified regional exam for first-year baccalaureate students began today in all regions of Morocco, with thousands of candidates flocking to designated centers for this crucial examination.
The exam continues tomorrow and represents an important step before the national exam for second-year baccalaureate students, scheduled to begin next Thursday.
The Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports has intensified preparations to ensure the smooth running of the exams. Officials have equipped exam centers and launched awareness campaigns aimed at preventing cheating, a persistent issue during Morocco’s national exams.
Regional education directors, alongside exam center heads, supervised the opening of the exam session. In Sidi Slimane province alone, 19 centers were assigned to accommodate candidates.
This regional exam carries significant weight, accounting for up to 25% of the final baccalaureate score, which underscores its importance in the eyes of Moroccan students and their families.
Make-up exams for the regional session are scheduled for June 30 and July 1, while the national exam’s make-up sessions will take place on July 3, 4, and 5.
Law No. 02.13, enacted in 2013, clearly outlines penalties for cheating. Those caught leaking exam content or assisting others during the exam face prison sentences ranging from three months to two years and fines up to 20,000 dirhams.
exchanging information during the exam or using unauthorized devices, whether electronic or otherwise, can result in fines ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 dirhams.
Despite these legal measures, reports indicate that a portion of students continue to rely on cheating, highlighting ongoing challenges in ensuring fairness and integrity in Morocco’s education system.
