Morocco’s hotel industry has expressed cautious support for the government’s plan to introduce regular mystery guest evaluations across hospitality establishments.
The inspections, based on over 800 technical criteria, aim to elevate service quality as Morocco expands its global tourism footprint.
Ahmed Bennani, president of the Marrakech–Safi hotel federation, noted that while professionals “do not oppose the principle,” the success of the audits hinges on evaluator expertise and fairness.
Industry representatives stressed that evaluations must be carried out by qualified professionals to avoid reputational harm caused by misjudgment.
Ali El Kadri, head of the Tangier–Tetouan–Al Hoceima hotel federation, proposed conducting two separate mystery stays to offset possible biases. The practice aligns with international standards where customer reviews and secret audits are routine quality tools.
As Morocco prepares for a surge in tourist demand, industry leaders say the program must balance technical rigor with practical implementation to strengthen competitiveness and protect institutional credibility.
