A Casablanca investigating judge has ordered the pretrial detention of prominent real estate developer and former Raja Casablanca football club president, Mohamed Boudrika, on charges of fraud, forgery, and issuing bad checks.
The decision was issued by the examining magistrate at the Ain Sebaa Court of First Instance, who set a date for Boudrika’s first public hearing, expected to take place next week.
According to Boudrika’s legal team, the charges confirmed by the investigating judge are identical to those initially filed by the public prosecutor. They include issuing checks without sufficient funds, fraud, forgery of private documents, and unlawful acquisition and use of administrative certificates.
Boudrika, a former MP for the National Rally of Independents party, has denied all allegations during detailed questioning. He argued that similar charges had previously been settled in court rulings issued in 2018.
The legal troubles facing the former head of the Mers Sultan district council intensified following his arrest in July 2024 at Hamburg Airport in Germany. He was detained by German authorities based on a Europol alert tied to an international arrest warrant and was subsequently extradited to Morocco.
Boudrika, who led Raja Casablanca from 2012 to 2016, has been embroiled in multiple controversies since leaving office. In addition to the criminal charges, he was dismissed from his role as district council president due to prolonged absenteeism. Local authorities had granted him a one-week deadline to resume his official duties after a reported medical procedure abroad, which he publicly cited via social media.
The high-profile case has drawn national attention, intertwining politics, sports, and the judiciary, as Boudrika continues to face mounting legal challenges.
