Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, reaffirmed on Tuesday the country’s steadfast commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable path to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian issue.
Speaking at the 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-hosted by Morocco and the Netherlands and held under the theme “Sustaining Momentum for the Peace Process: Lessons Learned, Success Stories, and Steps Forward” Bourita emphasized that the two-state solution alone could lead to a just and lasting peace through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the 1967 borders.
The event, held amid the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, brought together international officials, including Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Varsen Aghbekian Shahin, alongside European representatives such as Christian Rebergen, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
Recorded keynote addresses were also delivered by Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain; Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France; Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia; and José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of Spain.
Bourita noted that Morocco has consistently supported this internationally recognized option, emphasizing that Moroccan diplomacy has long worked with determination to strengthen prospects for peace in the region.
The two-state solution should not be subject to political posturing, said Bourita, calling it the only outcome where no party loses—except, he added, for those who exploit slogans without offering real support.
He also warned against hollow rhetoric, highlighting that only a genuine commitment can bring development opportunities to the region.
Referencing King Mohammed VI’s address to the latest Arab Summit in Baghdad, Bourita recalled the call for clear steps to end the current crisis, including an immediate halt to military operations.
He also rejected the use of past agreements as excuses for failure and called for stronger institutional support for the Palestinian Authority under the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas, asserting that the sovereignty of peoples must not come with conditions.
While affirming the need to push forward political efforts for a two-state solution, Bourita also stressed the importance of embedding economic dimensions into the peace process. He pointed to the longstanding work of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency as an example, but made it clear that economic aid can never substitute for a political resolution.
Bourita expressed confidence in the coalition’s potential to offer meaningful and practical steps to reinvigorate the political track, reiterating that the two-state solution remains the only comprehensive and credible option.
He also called for enriching the final document to be co-produced with the Netherlands at the close of the event
