Renaissance Sportive de Berkane took a significant step toward clinching another CAF Confederation Cup title on Sunday evening, defeating Tanzania’s Simba SC 2–0 in the first leg of the final at the municipal stadium in Berkane.
The Moroccan side, coached by Moïne Chaâbani, dominated the first half with assertive play and sharp attacking sequences that left Simba struggling to respond. Senegalese forward Mamadou Camara opened the scoring early in the 8th minute with a powerful header that left the Tanzanian goalkeeper with no chance.
Just six minutes later, Osama El Melloui doubled the lead, capping off a clinical first-half performance and sending the home crowd into celebration. RS Berkane maintained control for much of the half, keeping Simba on the back foot.
The second half saw the “Orange Boys” pushing for a third goal to further ease the pressure ahead of the second leg. Despite numerous efforts to breach Simba’s defense again, RS Berkane were ultimately denied by missed chances and a lack of composure in the final third.
The match concluded with a well-earned 2–0 advantage for the Moroccan club, putting them in a strong position ahead of the return fixture.
The second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, at Amaan Stadium on the island of Zanzibar. Kickoff is set for 18:00 local time (20:00 Moroccan time).
