Fitch Solutions has praised Morocco’s 2030 digital strategy, calling it a foundation for accelerated 5G and fiber optic adoption, and a potential catalyst to transform the Kingdom into a regional tech hub.
Central to this shift is the infrastructure-sharing model between telecom giants Maroc Telecom and Inwi, including two co-enterprises: one tasked with deploying 2,000 new 5G towers within three years and another targeting 3 million fiber-connected homes by 2030.
With a 460 million euro investment already mobilized, Fitch sees a strong alignment between public ambition and private cooperation to achieve 25% 5G coverage by end-2025 and 70% by 2030.
The agency also flags execution risks, chief among them the absence of a 5G license auction, short deployment windows, and global supply chain disruptions affecting smartphone access.
Broader structural hurdles also persist, such as limited infrastructure maturity and macroeconomic uncertainty driven by global trade tensions.
Despite this, Morocco scores relatively well in Fitch’s Digital Readiness Risk Index, outperforming Egypt.
