The 2024–25 Botola Pro season concluded over the weekend, confirming Morocco’s representatives in next season’s African club competitions while introducing a new playoff format for promotion and relegation.
Berkane, AS FAR Clinch Champions League Berths
RS Berkane sealed the league title and will represent Morocco in the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history. AS FAR joined them after securing second place on the final matchday, earning their third consecutive and 14th overall appearance in Africa’s premier club competition.
Berkane’s rise to the top flight of African football comes after a strong run in the CAF Confederation Cup, which they won in 2020 and 2022, along with the CAF Super Cup in 2022. The team still has one final task this season: contesting the Confederation Cup final against Simba SC of Tanzania, with the decisive second leg scheduled for May 25 in Dar es Salaam.
Raja Could Join Wydad for Confederation Cup
Wydad Casablanca claimed third place in the league, securing a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. The second Moroccan spot is traditionally awarded to the Throne Cup winner. However, with the tournament still unfinished and CAF’s submission deadline looming at the end of June, uncertainty remains.
According to reports, Raja Casablanca—winners of the previous Throne Cup—may be nominated to fill the slot if the current edition does not conclude in time.
Relegation Confirmed; Playoff System Debuts
At the bottom of the table, Moghreb Tetouan and Chabab Mohammedia were relegated directly to the second division.
In a new twist this season, the 13th- and 14th-placed teams, Jeunesse Sportive Soualem (JSS) and Hassania Agadir (HUSA), will face third- and fourth-placed clubs from the second division in playoff matches to determine who remains in—or joins—the top flight.
