A large-scale medical outreach campaign was launched Monday in the rural commune of Iknioun, part of Tineghir Province, as part of ongoing national efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB) and improve access to healthcare in underserved areas.
The initiative was led by the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in coordination with local authorities and under direct instructions from the provincial governor. The campaign was personally overseen by the head of the Iknioun administrative district.
A specialized medical and nursing team supervised the operation, which focused primarily on TB screening, while also offering a range of other medical services to local residents. The campaign aims to promote early detection of TB and raise public health awareness, particularly in regions facing healthcare service shortages.
The move comes in response to recent reports circulated in local media and on social media platforms highlighting suspected TB cases in Iknioun, with some incidents allegedly linked to the consumption of unpasteurized dairy products.
In a clarifying statement, the provincial health delegation assured the public that the TB situation in the region is under control and is being continually monitored. Authorities have implemented preventive measures, including awareness campaigns and community outreach events to educate residents.
The statement, a copy of which was obtained by Hespress AR, explained that TB manifests in two forms: a contagious type transmitted via airborne droplets during close contact with infected individuals, and a non-contagious form. Health officials emphasized their ongoing vigilance and commitment to immediate intervention and necessary action if required.
This campaign is part of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection’s broader strategy to bring medical services closer to citizens and uphold the constitutional right to healthcare.
Special focus is placed on supporting vulnerable populations in geographically isolated areas through awareness initiatives and proactive health interventions, especially in the fight against communicable diseases like tuberculosis.
