Rescue teams on Monday recovered the third body of victims swept away by flash floods in Morocco’s Tinghir province, identifying the deceased as a 15 year old boy, as intensive search efforts continue for a fourth missing minor.
The floods last week swept a four wheel drive vehicle into Oued Fzou in the commune of Msissi, with four people on board. The bodies of three victims have now been found, while one child remains missing.
Search operations have mobilized local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, civil protection services and auxiliary forces, supported by residents. Difficult terrain and harsh conditions have complicated the efforts.
The Royal Gendarmerie reinforced the search using a helicopter that conducted aerial sweeps for more than five hours, along with five drones deployed from the regional command in Ouarzazate.
The victims are from the commune of Tafraout Sidi Ali. Local groups have called for additional logistical and human resources to speed up the search amid growing concern among residents and the victim’s family.
