Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology issued an orange-level weather alert on Wednesday, warning of strong winds accompanied by dust storms expected to impact several regions across the country throughout the day.

The extreme weather conditions may significantly reduce horizontal visibility, posing risks to travelers and outdoor activities.

According to the bulletin, wind gusts are forecast to reach speeds between 70 and 85 km/h, with the alert in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The affected provinces include Nador, Taourirt, Jerada, Figuig, Boulemane, Midelt, Essaouira, Agadir Ida-Outanane, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, and Tarfaya.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly when traveling on open roads or in exposed areas, and to comply with safety instructions issued by local officials.

In terms of general weather conditions, unstable skies are expected today, with light, scattered rain showers anticipated in regions such as Gharb, Saïss, Loukkos, Rif, Tangier, the northern Middle Atlas, and the eastern high plateaus. Light snowfall may continue over the Middle Atlas and Rif mountain peaks.

Strong winds and dust storms will likely affect areas near the Mediterranean, eastern regions, the High Atlas, the eastern Middle Atlas, and the southern parts of the country. Temperatures will vary widely, ranging from 10°C to 15°C in the mountains and the east, and possibly rising to 35°C in southern desert regions.

Looking ahead:

  • Thursday is expected to bring partly cloudy skies and light local rain around Tangier, along with relatively strong winds and dusty conditions in the Anti-Atlas and central coastal areas.

  • Friday will remain unsettled, with local showers over the Atlas Mountains and moderate to strong winds in parts of the south.

  • Weekend Outlook: Weather instability will likely persist in northern regions, the Atlas, and the east, with a chance of scattered showers. Conditions are expected to improve gradually starting Monday, with a noticeable warming trend following a temporary drop in temperatures over the weekend.

The Meteorology Directorate continues to advise the public to stay updated with official forecasts as the volatile weather may disrupt daily life, agricultural activities, and transport operations.
