Morocco ranks 42nd in the world for artificial intelligence adoption, with a projected adoption rate of 16% by the end of 2025, according to a new report by the platform All About AI.

Though the current rate lags behind global leaders such as the United States and China, Morocco is experiencing one of the fastest growth rates worldwide, with an annual increase of 166.7%, the report said.

The United States tops the global list with an expected adoption rate of 72%, backed by $15.2 billion in federal investment and a national strategy focused on AI governance. China follows closely at 70%, driven by its $22.4 billion national AI program. Singapore ranks third with 66%, supported by its “Smart Nation” initiative, which integrates AI into public services and finance.

In Morocco, much of the progress is linked to the country’s “Digital Morocco” strategy, which includes a 1.8 billion dirham ($180 million) investment in modernizing digital infrastructure. Key growth sectors include tourism and services, where AI is being used for personalized recommendations, behavioral analytics, and automated customer service tools.

Despite these advances, sectors such as healthcare, education and manufacturing remain in the early stages of AI integration. Unlike more developed nations, Morocco has yet to release comprehensive data on AI usage across different industries, limiting full assessment of its adoption landscape.

The country also faces challenges in skilled labor and research capacity. There is a limited pool of local talent in machine learning and data science, and collaboration between Moroccan universities and international research centers remains limited.

However, government initiatives aimed at bridging these gaps are underway. These include support for technology startups, tax incentives for digital investments, and the development of national cloud infrastructure.

Across Africa, the average AI adoption rate stands at approximately 14%, though levels vary widely by country. Kenya and Nigeria lead the continent in areas such as mobile financial services, while countries like Ethiopia and Uganda are still in the early phases of AI development.
