Sources informed Hespress that the National Customs Brigade has ramped up efforts to collaborate with the Royal Gendarmerie near Casablanca, particularly in the areas of El Harrouiyn, Bouskoura, and Sidi Hajjaj, to track down a network involved in counterfeiting motor oils.
The network transformed makeshift warehouses into secret production units for fake motor oils and counterfeit spare parts. Investigations were launched based on information gathered by the customs surveillance unit’s risk analysis team after detecting an increase in construction companies turning to fake oils for machinery lubrication due to their lower cost compared to original oils.
Further investigations revealed that the counterfeit oil producers relied on collectors and intermediaries who sourced used motor oils, purchased at low prices from sources like gas stations and local workshops.
The oils were then processed with added chemicals to alter their color and viscosity, creating a dangerous product that threatened vehicle safety.
Counterfeit products were found with fake international brand labels and barcodes linking to unrelated products. The authorities are now preparing for legal actions against those involved in the network.
