Morocco took part in an extraordinary session of the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council on Monday, as preparations intensify for the upcoming Arab Summit on Economic and Social Development.

The Kingdom was represented by Mohamed Ait Ouali, Moroccan Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, during the ministerial-level talks held at the League’s headquarters in the Egyptian capital.

The meeting aimed to finalize the agenda for the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, scheduled for May in Iraq.

Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, the League’s Assistant Secretary General for Social Affairs, underscored the significance of the session, held amid heightened regional and global challenges. She called for “rigorous preparation” and the selection of priority themes that could advance joint Arab development efforts.

In coordination with member states, ministerial councils, and technical committees, the League’s General Secretariat has drafted a preliminary summit agenda, which Abu Ghazaleh said could serve as a “turning point” for Arab economic and social integration.

The session also reviewed several development initiatives and proposals presented by Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, covering a wide range of economic and social policy issues.
