Bank Al-Maghrib has reported an acceleration in the annual growth rate of bank loans to the non-financial sector, reaching 3.5% in February, compared to 3.3% in the previous month.
This upward trend highlights an increase in lending activity, particularly in loans directed toward private enterprises and households.
The report indicates that credit extended to private non-financial companies expanded by 1.6%, improving from the 1.2% recorded a month earlier. Public sector companies experienced an even more pronounced surge, with loan growth jumping to 12%, a sharp rise from 8.6% in January.
Household lending also displayed a steady upward trajectory, climbing to 2.2% from 2%. In terms of economic purpose, the rise in non-financial sector loans was fueled by treasury facilities, which advanced to 1.9% from 1.6%, alongside a significant boost in equipment loans, which soared to 9.7% from 8.9%. Similarly, consumer loans edged up to 1.8% from 1.6%.
Conversely, mortgage lending remained relatively stable, registering a consistent growth rate of 2.7% over consecutive months.
As for non-performing loans, their growth exhibited a slight slowdown, easing to 3.2% from 3.8% in January. Nevertheless, their proportion of total outstanding credit inched up to 8.7%, marginally higher than the previous month’s 8.6%.
