Casablanca Maintains 'Parking Chaos' by Licensing Car Guards for Vulnerable preople

As residents of Casablanca await the restructuring of the city’s informal parking attendant (or “guardian”) sector, Mayor Nabila Rmili has decided to extend the existing system by reinstating the issuance of licenses that had previously been suspended.

The Casablanca municipality has reversed its earlier decision to halt the granting of parking attendant licenses, now permitting their issuance to vulnerable social groups facing precarious circumstances.

Moulay Ahmed Afilal, Deputy Mayor of Casablanca, clarified that these licenses are exclusively intended for individuals in vulnerable situations, and not for unregulated, “unofficial” parking attendants.

“This category requires assistance to overcome their vulnerability,” he stated, emphasizing that the decision specifically excludes unofficial attendants who often cause frustration among citizens.

Afilal also noted that the municipal council is currently reviewing a detailed set of specifications for organizing the sector, aiming to eliminate the current haphazard and disorderly situation. This document will be presented for approval at an upcoming council session. This move suggests the “guardian” system will be changed in some manner in the future.
