Morocco condemned Thursday Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians, marking the first official response from the Kingdom.

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs stated in a press conference on the sidelines of an African session on artificial intelligence that “the situation is very dangerous there, and the Kingdom strongly condemns it.”

Bourita added that Morocco has been closely following the renewed attacks on civilians and the killing of hundreds, condemning Israel’s actions, which he believes do not contribute to peace in the region.

The Minister called on all parties to work toward establishing a ceasefire, noting the failure to implement the remaining stages of the agreement.

“The policy of starvation and halting aid creates tragedies in Gaza, which is unacceptable and defies both humanitarian and international logic,” he said.

Bourita also reminded that King Mohammed VI has emphasized that peace will not be achieved without the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Israeli military announced Thursday the commencement of ground operations across Gaza.

The army said one of the operations aims to “expand the defensive zone between the north and south of the Gaza Strip.”

Later on Thursday, the Israeli military announced the start of a ground operation along the coastal axis in the Beit Lahia area in northern Gaza.
