A report by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) highlights a 12% increase in Morocco’s automotive production in 2024, reaching nearly 500,000 vehicles. This growth helped offset a decline in Iran’s output, resulting in a 0.4% overall rise in vehicle production across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The report also notes a 6% drop in European Union car production, with Italy experiencing a sharp 43% decline and Belgium falling by over 31%. France and Romania also recorded declines, while Spain managed a slight increase.
Germany retained its position as the EU’s top car producer, manufacturing nearly 4 million vehicles in 2024. Spain followed in second place, with the Czech Republic ranking third after producing 1.44 million cars. Overall, EU member states produced over 11.4 million vehicles during the year.
The report states that global vehicle production reached 75.5 million units in 2024, with sales surpassing 74 million units, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. China continued to dominate, accounting for 31% of global car sales, while Japanese and South Korean sales declined.
In the European bus manufacturing sector, the report reveals a 19% drop in EU bus exports, despite an increase in imports. Turkey remained the EU’s top bus supplier, contributing €1.8 billion worth of imports, followed by China (€600 million) and Morocco (€67 million).
Morocco now holds a 2.5% market share in European bus imports, further solidifying its position as a rising player in the global automotive supply chain.
