Chellah Celebrates Ramadan with Astronomical Discoveries and Immersive Activities
Saturday 8 March 2025 - 00:08

The historic Chellah site marks its first Ramadan since reopening with an exceptional program, “Nuits Célestes,” from March 5 to 26, 2025. This iconic location in Morocco’s capital will transform into a space for contemplation and discovery, focusing on astronomy while offering immersive activities and ftours under a starry sky.

Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2012, Chellah is a major archaeological site showcasing Merinid, Roman, and Mauritanian legacies. Since its reopening in May 2024, following extensive restoration that began in 2021, it offers an immersive experience through an audio-guided tour.

The “Nuits Célestes” program includes four spiritual evenings (March 7, 14, 21, and 22) starting at 6:30 PM, featuring ftour prepared by Chef Hicham Aouad, followed by poetic and musical performances within the Chellah. Additionally, there are workshops like the “Corps Célestes” printmaking sessions with the KIMIA Collective, exploring photo-chemical processes such as cyanotype to create celestial-inspired artworks.

Astronomy encounters with Steps Into Space will include conferences and observation sessions, and there are various creative workshops including clay instrument making and astrophotography. The Ciconia restaurant will serve daily ftours (Sunday to Thursday), with artist-led ftours on Fridays and Saturdays.
