Morocco’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said the sighting of the Shawwal crescent for the year 1447 AH would take place on Thursday evening, March 19, 2026, corresponding to 29 Ramadan.
In a notice addressed to judges and the ministry’s regional delegates across the kingdom, the ministry called for the crescent to be observed at the specified time and asked to be informed of the results whether the moon was sighted or not.
The step forms part of Morocco’s annual procedure for determining the start of Shawwal, the month that begins with Eid al Fitr, on the basis of the religious sighting of the new moon.
