Morocco has acquired the Chinese-made TB-001 reconnaissance and attack drone, also known as the “Double-Tailed Scorpion,” to enhance its defense capabilities.
Manufactured by Sichuan Tengden Sci-Tech Innovation Co., Ltd., this highly versatile unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is designed for both surveillance and precision strikes.
With its dual-engine, twin-tail configuration, the TB-001 offers exceptional operational capabilities, including a range of up to 6,000 kilometers and an impressive endurance of up to 35 hours.
The TB-001’s specifications make it a formidable addition to Morocco’s military arsenal. It has a wingspan of 20 meters and a maximum take-off weight of 2,800 kg, allowing it to carry up to 1,200 kg of munitions.
This gives Morocco the ability to conduct high-altitude reconnaissance missions and precision strikes with greater effectiveness. The drone can operate at altitudes of up to 8,000 meters, making it particularly efficient for intelligence gathering and long-range attacks.
Its capability to carry light missiles significantly enhances Morocco’s strike potential, particularly in the context of securing its borders and maintaining territorial integrity in the disputed Sahara region.
The acquisition is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to modernize its military and strengthen its defense posture, especially amid regional security challenges.
This deal highlights the growing defense cooperation between Morocco and China, with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) previously acquiring other Chinese-made defense systems, including Wing Loong II drones, Sky Dragon 50 air defense systems, AR2 multiple rocket launchers, and HJ-9A anti-tank systems.
